PSCAD Workshop on
Renewable Power Integration for Practicing Engineers
Workshop: August 15 - 16, 2023: Hyatt Regency Boston, Boston, MA
Network Dinner Cruise: August 16, 6:30-9:00pm, Boston Harbor
This two-day workshop discusses practical aspects of modelling and integration of renewable energy plants (including IBR) into utility grid using PSCAD.
It is intended for practicing electrical engineers who want to improve or refresh their understanding of system studies requirements including dynamics, transients, and stability studies using PSCAD software. Several case studies will be discussed in detail to highlight practical situations encountered by engineers. Course attendees will have the opportunity to experiment with case studies in an interactive hands-on workshop environment using PSCAD. Broad categories of topics discussed, and hands-on exercises conducted include:
-
Introduction to EMT and importance of EMT studies for inverter-based resources - PowerPoint presentation.
-
Basic steps of inverter-based resource Interconnection study including illustration of model development and hands-on lab session.
-
Development of study model including discission on model guidelines, validation, and challenges.
-
Fundamental concepts of Inverter based generation – PowerPoint presentations, technical notes, and illustrative examples (that users can run) including discussion on basic design concepts, and inverter protection and controls.
-
Performing a PSCAD based dynamic response study to verify fault ride-through and general dynamic response including Wind, PV, Conventional generation, FACTS, and Synchronous condensers.
-
Sub-synchronous resonances including SSCI and SSTI
